Book Reports are usually confused with book reviews as being the same in terms of what is included. It must, however, be reinforced that the two are quite different in terms of their content matter. For instance, a book review is where an individual has expressed a certain opinion on the various aspects of a book. It may be in the form of praise or critique.
A book review is generally the go-to for anyone who needs a recommendation regarding a particular book that he / she is willing to read. A report, on the other hand, is more like a summary of the entire book and emphasizes more on the main arguments as well as the plot discussed in the book. Some of the main elements that a book report comprises of will be discussed herein.
The first step would be to read the book of your choice, or in other cases, the book that has been assigned to you for this purpose. A thorough reading is preferable in order to comprehend the content entirely. Another recommendation that might come in handy is to make notes of the important facts that can be used later while writing. The basic elements of a book report include its title, name of the author, name and location of publisher and the number of pages. These four essential elements are a must for any report. Without these, a report remains incomplete. This is also a red flag indicating that your report is off to a bad start. Now we don’t want to end up in such a situation. Do we?
To avoid this, it’s better to make a checklist of the important elements. In addition to aforementioned four elements, the year of publishing is of critical importance. Identifying the genre is another significant task. Each individual has a specific interest and he/ she may prefer a certain genre over the other. This is followed by the main plot of the book which allows you to highlight the subject matter that the entire book revolves around. You can provide a further insight into the plot by identifying the serval characters in the story.
A book report will always end with your personal evaluation of the main idea or any one of the many ideas discussed within the book. Here, the reader provides an objective view of the book and its content matter.
